About this role

Overview:

The Camp Committee PR Chair is responsible for the camp’s public-facing presence before and during camp. They promote camp using outreach methods, create promotional content to support MYNA’s marketing efforts, and lead and capture the energy of camp. The Camp Committee PR Chair serves as the primary source of training, advice, and direction for their event subcommittee.

General Responsibilities:

  • Create the official regional camp flyer.

  • Promote camp in the months prior using outreach methods including distributing flyers in communities and masaajid, tabling at jummah and speaking to community leaders, and finding ways to share MYNA camp information with people.

  • Run the regional Instagram account, building out the region’s online presence through content creation and onsite during the one-day Instagram camp takeover.

  • Produce short-form video content at camp- capture camp experiences with photos and videos (a smartphone may be used for this so a professional camera is not required).

  • Lead post-salad adhkar and make the adhkar posters when necessary.

  • Update parents about camp activities regularly.

  • Lead camp chants and ensure everyone at camp feels included.

  • Assemble and distribute goodie bags for campers at checkout.

  • Ensure the committee and MYNA officers do a Get Involved Session to talk about volunteering opportunities with MYNA

  • Submit a metrics report documenting the results of promotional efforts via social media and upload all photos & videos taken at camp to MYNA’s database

Important Considerations:

  1. You must attend camp (and arrive onsite a day early to help with set up)

  2. Special discounts are provided for camp committee members to make this possible

  3. This position requires at least three hours a week during the planning process

  4. You must be on all calls, unless a valid excuse is provided

  5. You must communicate regularly with your advisors and EC liasion.

  6. Professional camera is not necessary, but you must have access to Instagram and smartphone throughout the term and during camp.
